2009 National Annual Meeting Travel & Visitor Information

The Durham Convention and Vistors Bureau provides links to cultural events and local attractions. The Independent Weekly,a progressive local publication, covers entertainment and news of the Triangle Area.

Transportation

Get around Durham on the Durham Area Transit Authority System (DATA). DATA also provides service  to connectors to outlying regions. DATA bus schedules can be found here. There is a fare-free NCCU shuttle around the campus. It's route can be found at  Route 14 on the DATA site. The DATA site also contains links to other Durham  points of interest.

Transportation to and from the airport and around Durham is also provided by On Time Taxi. On Time Taxi will do $25 each way from airport to NCCU or the Studio Plus. Multiple riders can receive a $15 per person rate. In town rate is $2.00 (two dollars) per mile.

North Carolina Central University

Our meeting place, North Carolina Central University (NCCU), is an Historically Black College or University. As a part of the University of North Carolina system of public colleges and universities, NCCU is a focus of Durham life and culture.

We will be meeting in the Miller-Morgan Center. The
NCCU Campus Map is an interactive map that will help find the location of specific campus buildings.

Lodging
The Studio Plus Hotel in Durham's Research Triangle Park has offered Annual Meeting attendees a special rate of $70.00 including tax. Studio Plus is an extended stay hotel and offers suites with kitchens.

To take advantage of the special negotiated rate, please contact the manager Brian Hines, at DTP@extendedstay.com

Cuisine
Durham has many good restaurants. Closest to NCCU is the Know Bookstore and Deli, at 2520 Fayetteville St. <img src ="Know front.jpg" > More information about The Know Bookstore can be found at Restaurant.com. Downtown Durham along Main Street features several restaurants. The Federal Lounge is popular, features reasonably priced food and a good beer selection. On Ninth Street, near the Duke East Campus, International Delights a Mediterranean restaurant, the Cosmic Cantina (burritos), and Elmo's Diner (family style, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, beer and wine available) are a few of the good eating places in this area. A block over on Broad Street, Watts Grocery serves lunch and dinner, using locally grown food (2 hour radius) as much as possible.

The North Carolina Green Party hopes that you enjoy your time in Durham. Members of the Triangle Greens, the local chaper of the NCGP, will be available after hours for anyone who wants a guide or just plain company.
